I've touched on this briefly before, but it's worth mentioning again that MinnKota will introduce a new line of on-board battery chargers, called "Precision Chargers", in 2010. Some of the features of these new chargers include:
- A new high-frequency, digital design that makes the chargers compact and lightweight. For example, the current 4-bank MinnKota on-board charger (MK440) weighs 22.5 lbs, while the 4-bank Precision Charger (MK440PC) cuts that weight in half (11 lbs). The Precision Chargers not only weigh less than current MinnKota chargers, but they will also take up less of your boat's valuable storage space.
- Low line voltage compensation that delivers 10 amps per bank even when the input voltage drops as low as 90VAC. Let’s say you’re at a tournament and a group of anglers are plugged into one outlet or you have to run a long extension cord to an outlet. In many of those instances the results are lower input voltage to the charger which compromises charger output. MinnKota Precision Chargers compensate for lower input voltage and still deliver true-rated output of 10 amps per bank assuring rapid battery recovery.
- Fully automatic 3-stage charging (bulk, absorption, maintenance)
- Battery selector (lead acid/AGM, high-performance AGM or gel) by specific bank.
- 4-6 hour recovery time
MinnKota Precision Chargers will be available in 1, 2, 3, and 4-bank models, with MSRPs of $170 for the 1-bank model through $450 for the 4-bank model.
