Fished pool 14 for the first time on Monday, and now I'm hooked. On some tips from a fellow IDO'er (BIG thanks!  ), I got a late start at 10 am, and fished until 6. Between 12:30 and 5 I couldn't buy a bite, but in the rest of the time I boated an even dozen. Wished I'd have started earlier. Kept three eaters for the pan, the rest were between 22" and 26" and went right back. The 26" was the last fish of the day, and a great place to end it. Sorry, no photos; I'm superstitious. I can have a camera in the boat, or a net, but not both at the same time. It jinxes me, and I'm really glad I had the net!
Another great example of some of the truly fine and helpful people on this site, without the help of a fellow IDO'er I'm sure I wouldn't have done as well. I love this site.

Give us more details. What were you using and where were you using it? 3 ways, crankbaits, wingdams, back waters or what.
It has been to COLD for me that last couple of weeks, but I am hoping that it will warm up a little.
We should try doubling up in one of our boats and then we could take pictures of all of the monsters being caught.

Right now you want to be fishing ANYTHING that looks like a shad. I've been getting all of my fish on shad baits and ringworms. They just inhale the shad baits. Been fishing wingdams, riprap banks. Don't forget to fish the flat that extends 20 to 30 yards above a wingdam. Either drift while jigging a shad bait or pull a crankbait. The shad are starting to ball up now and they roam those flats. The walleyes will come off the wingdams and cruise the flats looking for schools of shad. The walleyes are not as concentrated there as they are on wingdams or current breaks, but they are definitly there and they are usually big. Good luck.

How's P14 for weeds floating down? The upper pools are a mess. I'm setup to leave for P9 tomorrow knowing it's nothing but a grass ball floating down. Will make a different move if 14 is better. Please let me know and I'll drop my rooms

Ringworms on the wingdams and riprap was the ticket. And I agree, anything looking like a shad.

Almost forgot--weeds were BAD! Jigs are my favorite, but stuck to them anyway, couldn't imagine trying to pull 3-ways or cranks through those mats of grass. One guy was doing it, but I don't know how--I was cleaning my jog off every other cast.

I was out for a couple hours a week ago and the grass was really bad. Since then, the grass seems to have cleared up but the flow has tripled and the water muddied. Not sure what the bite is like. Probably find out this coming weekend.

Was out the last two days for 6 hours of fishing. No fish, weeds bad and the water clarity is about 2 to 3 inches. The flow jump to 64,000+. I heard the water clarity from Dubuque on north is very fishable.

We caught a dozen on Sunday up at the dam . The normal areas we fish were covered up with grass and the flow was strong. Swimming plastic put fish in the boat for us. We need the water to drop a foot and the grass needs to get through the area . If that happens the fall bite should get going.
