I've got a few Husky Jerks in size 8 and 10. I always hear people talking about trolling them, which I've never tried. My question is do you need to troll them on a 3-way or can you just run them behind the boat like a deep-runner? I'm headed out in the morning to give it a whirl so any tips would be awesome.

Hey Ryan
You can long line troll those HJs just like you would a shad rap. In fact, they work GREAT this time of year when water temps start to fall and the fish aren't usually as willing to run down a bite with a more aggressive action. Typically I troll those baits sub-2MPh. With 20Lb test / 6 Lb diameter braid I can get a #12 down 8+ feet on 120' of line. Subtract about 1 - 1.5 feet of total running depth for the #10 and 2 - 3 feet of total running depth for the #8 and you'll be in the ballpark.

Awesome James! I'll give it a try in the am. Hopefully it pans out! The problem with fishing is I can never sleep the night before I go, I'm always too excited!

Best of luck to you in the AM. Looks like you're going to have some sun and warmer temps to enjoy so make the most of it.

You will want to use a #2 0r #3 crosslock snap to give the lure full range of motion or if your good with knots the Rapala knot works great.

I put in about 10 - 12 hours in the last 2 days and had 1 tiny smallie and 1 tiny pike to show for it. I tried raps, spinners (ie mister twisters), husky jerks, lots of soft plastics (ringworms, superdos, kgrubs)... I pitched and trolled. I also tried jigging crawlers as well as tipping a floating jig-head with a crawler about 2 feet of the bottom. I thought I would kill with the nicer weather but it was like the dead sea out there. Any thoughts? Does anyone think it may have to do with the faster than usual cool down?
