I was down there from Wednesday through Saturday and caught lots of fish each day. I hate to admit it but I never ventured south of Evert's in the four days and had plenty of fish each day. You had to work for them and some of the cagy old guys sure don't flag a net unless they have to but there are definitely fish to be caught right now. The good news is about everything is working now too. Plenty of fish on blades---if you can use them---and for the rest of us the 3 way and livebait or stickbait bite is solid. I didn't see many people vertical jigging but I put fish in the boat that way too. The plastic bite should really kick in any day now and then it is going to get crazy. It is a good time of year to be on the river

Dad and I kicked the crap out of the saugers with blades green & chart were the best . We caught fish from the dam all the way back to Everts. Great first fall pool 4 trip.
We were the 2 clowns in the red & white 618T with matching blaze ornge sweatshirts.

think that was bad, don't show up in the spring!

For some reason, everybody tends to migrate to the dam--other parts of the river will be devoid of fisherman but full of fish.

Blade baits, are baits like Cicadas. The most commonly used variety up here resemble the Heddon Sonars. We caught a ton of fish on the blade baits we bought from Everts on Saturday. They have that same profile, which I truly believe is a major key to success.

We caught our fish both casting and retrieving (slowly lift the rod tip just so you can feel the vibration and let the blade fall back with the current), and vertical jigging them (lift about 12" off the bottom with a slight snap of the wrist, left flutter to the bottom while maintaning feel and repeat as soon as it hits the bottom). You should feel the fish hit on the fall, if not most of your fish will be foul hooked.

These presentations work year round, but are used the most in the spring and fall when the fish are congrigated in small areas. Once you start catching them consistantly on Blade baits, they will become a major part of your arsenal.

Do you think smaller systems just north of the cities should be producing as well now? I put in about 10 - 12 hours in the last 2 days and had 1 tiny smallie and 1 tiny pike to show for it. I tried raps, spinners (ie mister twisters), husky jerks, lots of soft plastics (ringworms, superdos, kgrubs)... I pitched and trolled. I also tried jigging crawlers as well as tipping a floating jig-head with a crawler about 2 feet of the bottom. I thought I would kill with the nicer weather but it was like the dead sea out there. Any thoughts? Does anyone think it may have to do with the faster than usual cool down?

I saw you guys within the chaos of boats there on Sunday. I was in a Ranger 621 with a guy that caught a 47" sturgeon. Not sure if you were there yet when he caught that about 9am or not. Lots of fish there though. I was a little surprized how many catfish there were as well.

One thing i do remember is the two guys in blaze orange coats among all those boats , thats a good way to stick out and say you where there , i had a episode the week before by the dam , i was casting a crank and what ever it was kept spitting it out ,one time it snapped it right off and the lure came to the top , so i trolled over picked it up and put it on a ten pound test , again it came back this time i set it real hard and we got it up to the boat but and it would not fit in the net alls we saw was a very long snout like a gar and a huge back fin and it lure came out then it wrapped around the tail we about jumped in and tried to grab it but it was gone , any one know what this are? I mean this this had to be 4' of better any way it was a awsome pull for twenty minutes

Was it a sturgeon? they don't have a real long snout, but have a long tail fin.

They beat me to it, I hooked one in the Cannon River using a yellow Mr. Twister about 10 years ago. Thought it was a big pike when it hammered it until I got it up to shore and seen the wicked thing, not sure if it bit on the lure or I had it snagged right under the big snout but it shook loose, me and my buddies couldn't believe it we had no clue what it was at the time. It looked like a beaver/fish hybrid lol.
