hooks on Flicker Shads

#828689 - 10/22/09 04:16 PM

I've heard of a few people having problems with them breaking before, but if finally happened to us on Tuesday. Had some wipers just turn the treble hooks into doubles with no problem at all.
How many of you guys have had problems with the hooks not holding up on Flickers? What kind of hook do you like to put on em for replacement? I've used some Eagle Claws with decent success, but thought I'd ask to see what your suggestions where. Thanks--

I've been using Flicker Shads on Pool 2 for the last several years and so far I haven't had any problems with the hooks. I have trouble keeping them tuned, but haven't had the hooks break. Now before anybody jumps on me OK I don't catch many Walleyes much less big ones....but I've caught some dandy big Sheepheads and a few Channels and the hooks held OK.

I wonder if they changed hook vendors to save a few bucks?

My older flicker-shads have a different style hook than the new ones sold now.

That being said, I've had some trouble with my older ones (hook pulling the anchor out of the plug and sometimes hooks breaking)

I've had no issues with the newer ones though.

I have not had much trouble with the flicker shad hooks except getting bent up while to get the hooks out of catfish, but had a hook and o-ring pulled right off a shad rap this year.

Thanks for the input, guys. These wipers we've been catching the past couple of weeks have really been vicious on the Flickers, but they're vicious on about any hooks. I've got one Flicker that looks like the rear hook eye might pull out, mainly because of the wipers. But I may be looking at putting some different hooks on them.

Also, I remember reading/hearing something about the future of Flickers. They were going to be marketed under a different name this spring, and they were not going to be identical to a Flicker, but real close. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I wish I could remember where I read that.

I heard the "new" flicker shads are due out in stores in a couple weeks. I'm a little more excited to see the new line of Lindy Shadlings myself. (I stocked up on Flickers before they were discountinued)

If I remember right, the Flicker shads came with two different types of hooks. Either Triple Grips or another brand. I purposely only bought the lures with Triple Grips and have never had a problem.
