Yes Johnny that gets the blood pumping.... Over the last few years when on average is the first ice? Usually around the thanksgiving time?

Are you heading down to the ice show again? If so see you at the marcum booth...

With the right weather we can normaly walk out around the first of December and drive small stuff and little houses out around the 18th and our BIG 12x24 rental houses normaly go out x-mass day. Off course put warm temps and snowfall into the mix and it gets all buggered up.

As far as the show I'm not sure yet. Not only are a few things up in the air I am susposed to go to some dang xmass party that weekend and I am on jury duty call in Dec/Jan.

That is the best use yet that I have seen for a jiffy auger - That is if you can keep it running - Sorry I just could not help myself. Excellent picture though. I'm going to have to get up there this winter.

Heck yes Jon, those will bring back some memories and get the ice-brain working again. I've been fishing with Jonny on URL for the past 5 years now, and it's probably my top ice-trip or two each year.

I think we might have to give the gators a try this winter. Most years, we're so busy chasing after everything else that swims out there, the pike fishing gets left alone. However, in the past two summers, we've caught and released these three fish together - A 46"+, 44", and 40"er, along with numerous high 30's fish. I want a crack at any of those fish all over again.....this time thru ice!

At the same time, it's tough to beat walleye fishing out there. I like seeing all the people drive past to LOW, as many times you can do better there for numbers, but most often on URL, you get good numbers and better size. Last winter, most of our walleyes were in the 18-21" range, a blast!

Ya the piece of junk only drilled an estimated 24,500 holes then put in a couple highline poles and still sits waiting and ready.

And for those of you doubting the numbers; One day of re-drilling the rentals is 82 holes, say we do it twice a week then moving the houses that happens every three days on rotation hot or not that is a short estimate of 222 holes a week. Now we run at least twelve weeks sometimes fourteen now that is 3,000 holes a year not counting my personal fishing time, drilling tip-up holes for clients and holes for bridge flooding, road draining etc etc. That auger pictured was purchased with the materials for the two man sleeper...ten years ago.

There will be no smack talk about Jiffy's in the URL forum or I will throw three grains of sand on the ice and and shut down the shaver units until new blades and a replacement throttle cable arrive. (Red Lake ice is full of sand)

We try to keep the shacks looking good. We SCRUB them between each use and they are always one the move hence clean all around. We do not have TVs or stereos or any super fancy plush stuff but they are some of the biggest houses per angler you will find such as 12x24 six man sleepers and they are built to fish...and cook whatever you can fit in the oven before crashing on real mattresses.

Oh and we just added new very cool rubberized flooring in all the houses but one big six man and the soon to arrive new five man that I believe has carpet in it.

Here is a few pics off my website

Jonny;
When would one want to start making reservations to come up in early January? Is the houses you have pictured at the Washkish Minnow Station?

Yep, that's officially the first time I've ever caught 17-19" eyes in reed-beds with bass-busters or in-line spinners.
