Has anybody specifically targeted eyes at night during the fall. I'm thinking about going like 2 or 3 in the morning just wondering if its worth it. I'll be fishing below a dam thats lit up by the lock lights. Any tips or techniques I should employ? Thanks Dan

Personally,I let the water clarity determine if I will target walleyes at night on the river.As of lately I haven't had much luck real early in the morning on pool 4 but I might be missing something important.

Thought I heard something about them also biting at night.  Make sure and be extra careful out at night. Life jackets are a must this time of year and year your kill cord while under way. A couple of weeks ago we just about hit a can in the middle of the channel that a barge must of been dragging. It wasnt there when we went up river. The think was half under water and I didnt see it until it went by the side fo the boat.
Good luck. Dont forget to fish shallow. Very shallow.

Thanks for the replys. It will be a short run from the launch to the dam so hopefully its can free  . Am I wasting my time by going to the dam or should i target the rock below the locks. There are some long rip rap areas just off the current, should i start there? Any tips will help because this will be my maiden journey trying this. Thanks again, Dan

Try getting out there during the day light and searching around. Look for rocks and current. Find a few areas you think the walleyes may come up and feed on at dark or after dark then come back and give them a try. If you find fish in deeper water near one of these areas during the day they may move shallow during low light. Practice working and pitching these areas during the light will be very helpful after dark. Rip rap near the dam sounds pretty good. Any other rock piles, gravel bars or wingdams near by may be good also.
Most after dark fishing I do is pitching but don't over look dragging either. That can work very well also.

I got a 10 lb 4 oz, 29.5 in. walleye on Friday night dragging a 5" k grub in about 5-8ft. It was the only one but I didn't fish very long.

When I go at night on lakes in fall, I like to get out in the afternmoon and scout out green weed beds and mark the inside turns and edges. Shallow rock bars are another place to mark. Then in the evening into night go back and cast. I have had good luck around the new moon in fall with good stable weather a bonus. I cast rapalas and retrieve them steady back to the boat. You can catch big walleyes as shallow is 2' at night doing this, it can be alot of fun. Color is just as important if not more at night so play around with that also...

this is when i do most of my night fishing...errr early morning fishing.
here on pool 16, the water clears up a bit and on bright moon nights, i get up around 3 or 4 in the morning and head out and fish from shore. i fish tailwaters that our in a cut out water way. on either side of the shore is a shelf that sits in about 3-4 feet of water and then drops to 10'. i catch the biggest fish around this time and its the easiest to catch them...this year they prefer minnows however...
