Dish network in the Ice shack

#832044 - 11/03/09 05:16 PM

Man alive my buddy is trying to get a dish hooked up to his shack for this, We're having a hell of a time trying to figure out exactly what we need to do this, I got a free dish that has 2 "head" on it, can I use that with one tv? How do I know or find a good dish and reciever?

Can anyone help us out? We're both cable users

Nick, here is a set-up on craigslist.... you will need a subscription... you need to hook it up to a phone line, at least I think you still need to, but once that is done, grab the dish, receiver and some cable and tv, get it tuned in and you should be good to go

Im confused though, I have a dish, it has 2 heads, and 2 coaxial lines comming out do I just use one of those and leave the other hanging or what.

I believe we may have a reciever not totally sure yet.... used they look to be about $20, buddy has dish service so were going to add a reciever on his account.

I think the 2 head (LNB) is for Dish 500, all you have to do is get a splitter with 2 IN connections and 1 OUT connection.
You don't have to be connected to a phone line to use it. I have mine hooked to my internet and no phone line.

Thought this was a joke... you guys are serious. I would never go home if I could watch what I wanted out in the shack.

Not sure on Dish network, but with DirectTv, you had to have it hooked to a phone line, when they activated the card, just at start up, then you can unhook. This was 6 years ago, when I moved where I am now, but I am sure the internet hook-up has probably replaced that... I see lots of Fishhouses on the pond with Dish and DirectTv.... just about 1/2 of the perms owned by private party have it

I have Dish Network in my house (not my ice house). I don't have a phone line or internet connected to it. They mail me new "Smart Cards" when I need them.

the duel head is so that when positioned right it hits two different satellites giving you more channels. The two cable jacks coming out of the LNB are so you can hook up 2 different TV's, just plug it into #1 and you should be good to go.

Here is a good site to help you dial the dish in where ever you set up your fish house.-

No.. you do not have to hook up with a phone line with directv.. I have four recievers.. not one of them is hooked to a phone line, ever.. never.. because BIG BROTHER IS NOT GOING TO WATCH ME..watching HBO.. or fishing..or HBO.. or fishing.. or naked fish...

find out what the correct angles are for your area.. almost all of them are close.. so if this dish was already used close to you.. you should be set that way..get a wood base and mount the pole on it..90degree square.. and then put the whole deal in an open box or crate.. open on the sides where the dish is pointing out..

now take the whole works with you fishing.. dump the crate on the ice pointing SOUTH.. a little turn right or left and I would bet that you get 70% without trying..

how do I know this? I saw the guy selling "dishes" at the local fair.. and he showed me the "set up.." and he litterally said I just dump this box on the ground.. and run the cable to the tv.. and he had between 70-80 percent signal, which if you use regular charter cable, means you already have a better signal..

oh.. and I would get Directv instead.. why? because you can get the east and west coast feeds..

because you are "camping" with your dish..

and trust me, those feeds add up to more sports and more FOOTBALL without having to buy Sunday Ticket..

oh and when you take your receiver in the house.. it doesn't know that you aren't camping anymore.. SO YOU STILL GET THOSE FEEDS AT HOME..

trust me on this one.. and your wife will love it.. in fact my wife would slap the stuff out of me, if we lost our east and west coast network feeds..

Dish Network will charge you $5 a month for not being hooked to to a land line (phone) or broadband. As mentioned previously, DirecTv recommends a phone hook up, but will not charge you if you don't.
Both providers will function without a phone connection.

This shouldn't be a factor unless the equipment is really old.
Are they a dishpro? both reciever and LNB.... or Legacy.
it should say on both items
LNB should have it on the front of the LNB opposite side of the eyes, on the reciever it will be on the back serial tag.

Legacy equipement was discontinued a few years back... but its still out there (cheap)

Looks like a combo dish receiver and live release animal trap. Red Green would be proud.

I am just saying , its this easy to rig up.. and think about this, you can drag all your stuff in the cart.. and then hook up the dish once you get all your stuff unloaded..

Satellite in the Ice house.. I would bet that some guys may stay a week in there.. tip ups 24 hours a day.. a pot of chili on the coleman stove.. some cold drinks at hand.. no wife and kids..
holey moley.. a guy may stay longer then a week..
