I was looking at canoeing into the BWCA in June/July 2010. I haven't been into the back country since 1983 and I was looking for route suggestions out of the Ely area. Something that a +50 average shape person could handle and would hit some good fishing lakes. Anybody been to Alice Lake recently and if so is it still a good fish producing lake? Caught a lot of fish there in the 1970's and early 80's. Thanks, Tut

Sorry I did not answer right away. I have been into the BWCA for 28 years. We mostly outfit our own stuff but always start at Canoe Country Outfitters. They have always been good to us for info, permits, bunk house etc. Give them a call. I fished Alice lake this summer, but it was that HOT week in June and fishing was not good. That lake gets hit a lot. I am now over 50 also so my trips are not as far back. As you can guess, the farther back you go, the better the fishing. Another idea, subscribe to the Boundary Waters Journal. They always have trip ideas and you can purchase back issues (several about Alice Lake) and read up. Good paddling.
