Lake Ossawinamakee Crappies

#864800 - 02/08/10 11:59 AM

Had a great weekend at Lake Ossawinamakee. Had 5 people up with each having a snowmobile or 4wheeler. Not having these amazing tools for ice fishing before I was amazed at the mobility it allowed us when fishing.

We started Friday night around 8:00pm and found a great 32 foot hole with crappies marking all up and down the screen. However, the only ones that would bite were the ones that would come in suspended above the big group. Pull your lure up and SMACK. Crappie minnows did the trick the first night with the biggest crappie measuring 13 inches!

Day 2 - we decided to chase some walleye and had two that came off at the hole around 3pm - my guess would be 18-20 inches. We also found some slimers pictured below. All came on crappie minnows and a bobber in roughly 17 FOW on a break line.

After running back in for some steaks around 5pm - we were back out around 7pm putting the smack down on some more crappies. My fishing partner had never used spikes up here so I had decided to pick some up. Gill pill topped with 2 spikes did the trick on a great number of crappies, 13.5" being the biggest this night.

What a great trip to spend with some good friends!

Sorry for the some of the low quality pics - I think my camera man was drunk most of the trip!

We did some trail riding into Cross Lake - so it is up around that area.

No idea how to pronounce or spell it - think im just getting lucky! hahaha

When you ask the wife if you can go fish - doesn't it feel a lot like asking your mom if you can go play with your friends?

Tired of McDonalds? Try some BK
