Time to ask IDO. I have what I think is tennis elbow since last summer. It wont heal. It is very painful to utilize my right forearm for anything strenuos. Unfortunately the worst case scenerio is when setting the hook on anything. It used to help when I would use that arm band thing sold for this purpose. I think to hold the tendon? Even that no longer helps substantially. In talking to people I have heard the remedy ultimately being a shot of cortesone or surgery. I would really appreciate some feed back from those in the know. Thank you.

I had a real problem a few years back and found out the nerve had been torn loose where it tracks through the elbow (crazy bone). Had to have surgery which was very successful.
Best advice, see a doctor - a really good one.

I had the same problem in my wrists. A shot of cortisone took care of it. But it hurt like hell the first couple of days. Now, it's my elbows that bother, much like yours. I'll probably do the cortisone thing again. That stuff rocks in my book compared to surgery. But, I've heard you can overdo it also. WKW

Several friends of mine and myself have had tennis elbow from work. We have all worn the bands that go on your forearms which helped a little. For our annual Christmas party we use to go bowling and we didn't think we would be able to do it since all of our elbows were killing us. After the first 2 painful frames the pain went away and has not returned. I'm not trying to be a smart *** on my first post but this did the trick for all 3 of us. It's worth a try anyway.

Mike,
Cort tends to buy you time, that's all. It is important to get it looked at, hopefully an MRI. That will tell you what's going on, you don't want to treat an inflammation issue the same as a torn lig or tendon. I've been fighting a rotator cuff issue for the last year or so, PT is helping, as is not coaching the boys in pitch ball this year. Always remember, hot/cold, and don't do it if it hurts!
Oh yeah, you can always PM me for work reasons, we shouldn't hurt you too bad, at least at first.

I've had that problem for 21 yrs. Been to at least 6 different physical therapy places that many different doctors and nobody has helped me. I've had some relief but nothing has cured it. Never had the shot, but talked to people who have only to have the pain return in 6 months and they will only give you so many shots. Hope you have better luck than me and if you find something that works please let me know.

I went to a physical therp. for about 3-4 months and all fixed up. I used a sports med. therp. down off 169 and 494. She was fantastic
Casting hurt, setting the hook was an entire different pain.
Good luck

I had the same problem for close to a year and went to a chiropractor. One thing she did was locate the tendon below the elbow and dug in with her fingers massaging the tendon to the point of crying. What this does is causes pain which makes the body heal that area. She told me to continue this every other day and applying ointment like bio freeze. When locating the tendon all I can say is you'll know it when you dig into it. Good luck

Suzuki I have been working in rehab for over 20 years. You need to see a doctor and I would guess an MRI to see what exactly is going on. I am not a doctor but have seen many different medical issues with the people I work with. It could be a simple fix or it could mean surgery to fix the problem. It is not something you want to ignore. Get it checked out by professionals. There is always a possibility of further damage by not taking care of it right away. Good luck sir. Arnie

Google "tennis elbow excercises". There are 7 and they work. Do them a couple times an hour religiously and especially before you do something that causes you pain. I had to learn how to fish left handed last summer. the tendon needs to be worked in a way that doesn't cause inflamation but it shouldn't be left to rest you need to work it but not too much or too little.

Thanks Jon, and everyone for their input and advice. I just made a doctor apt and will start there. I'm afraid I let this go for too long and will pay the price. I cant think of two better months for rehab than March and April.

I had the same thing a couple of years ago. Finally got a Cort. shot and it worked great for about 3 months. Came back and I learned to put up with it and baby it. At that time I also started drinking a juice suppliment which really worked not only on my elbow but also on my back which I had been fighting for several years. Good Luck.

Suzuki,
The disease (for lack of a better name) is an inflamed tendon from over use. I dealt with it for 2 years and I found the only way to cure it is to change your how you do things. Mine started when I was doing lots of flipping and pitching and the hook-set was when you really knew about it. I gave-up the flipping rod for spinning rod till the inflammation went away. I also change my pitching motion to a less stress-full motion. It’s all a learning process. Even today I need to be aware of the things that give a little twinge of pain. An example is carrying anything on a straight arm such as luggage. I find if flex my elbow slightly the pain goes away. I did the cortisone, therapy etc., but till you change the things that cause the inflammation it won’t go away.
Good Luck,
John

I had the same problem and was also having troubles with my knees hurting at the same time. I started taking glucosamine with chondriton and it took about a month but now I am basically pain free in knees and elbows just a little ache once in a while. the pills are huge and are a little pricey about $30 a month but they work and have worked for a few other guys at work.
