Hayward Lakes Valetine's Day ice update
A weekend of opposites on the ice in the Hayward WI area over the past couple of days.
When the sun shone, the fish responded, with vigor. Bass and Esox during the day and a nice run of crappie in late afternoon. Once clouds and snow overtook the sun, the fishing was done. And I mean done!
We're still primarily focusing on weeds, although the shallow weeds have started to fade. Our attention has now shifted to the remaining green, deeper weed clumps as well as nearby deep (16-20+) water.
With 20+" of ice and a very dry 6-8" snowpack on top, travel conditions are easy. If you make it up to the Hayward WI area before the game fish season closes, be prepare to be mobile and say a prayer or two for sunshine!

Little Andrew is a bass machine. I may have to enter him in an early intervention program.
Check out the look on his sister's face in the fourth pic....that about says it all, right there!
