Would Spring high water be good or bad for bass

With a forcast of flooding on the Mississippi what is your feeling on catching bass in spring high water? Does it make it easier or more difficult?
Is it good for the Pools or not?
Just looking for opinions.

sounds good for me open water fishing is better then no fishing!!

My experience with high water on the river is that fishing gets really tough. With the water backed up into the timber the fish has a lot more room to spread out. It's really tough to get a boat back into that timber as well.

I dont fish for bass often but about three years ago i went bass fishing in the spring near wabasha pool 4 and the water was REALY HIGH and i only caught two fish that day but one was a 22 1/4 inch smallie and one was a 20 inch large mouth so i would say high water is not a bad thing. both fish were caught on top of islands that were completely exsposed a week later too hope they didnt have there spawning beds up there.....

I know pool 12 very well and could tell you an absolute honey hole when the water is up.

I have had some of my best outing during high water in spring. Bring it on I can't wait.

Some of the absolute best fishing I've ever had has been during high water, if you know how to read current................

I BEG for high flood waters in the spring...It positions those pre-spawn smallmouth and they stack up like crazy.
Second - I rely on the floodwaters to wash out backwater lakes that don't get current through them normally. It helps tear out all that old vegetation and allows for fresh growth. Much like how we didn't flood last year and Lawrence lake got choked out and was disgusting....

This is soooo true. a good doucheing would be GREAT to get rid of that old vegetation!

I'm a little skeptical of just how high the water is going to get this year...They are saying it will be a flood comparable to 2001 which was an epic one. Unless we receive an ungodly ammount of rain soon (and I don't count this latest spell as un-godly) I don't see how the flooding will be any worse than "normal"...Here in LAX we have virtually no snow on the ground... And much of the ground is thawed. I hear there is a good deal up north but it just isn't adding up for me.  Like BC and Slop though, I agree and hope that we have at least a moderate high water period, say 7-8 ft stage in LAX. Just hope it doesn't hit 10...

Anybody doing anything with this high water? You all said high water was good,but not seeing much for reports... I was gonna put the boat in yesterday, but the landings I went by were closed, so that might have something to do with it, obviously. Tried for a few hours the other day before the landings were closed and didn't get anything.

i got out twice in the last few days and only managed to catch one fish around 15"er SLOOOWWWW rolling a spinnerbait....i dont think its so much the high water to why they arent hitting as much as it is the weather...i think the cold front we got last week hurt it the most..once we get the water temp to come up a few degrees i think we'll see more people catching fish

as far as what i heard the waters gonna crest on tuesday on pool ten. which would be really nice. screaming hot weather this week means some hungry largies for easter weekend.

They're biting, just very few and far between. We caught a couple on swim jigs today along with a couple northerns. The wind made it a tough battle in open water. Water temp was 43 degrees.

Caught one small one today. With the expected warm trend coming it will hopefully turn them on a little better. Definately got a good week for spring break this week!

Managed to boat a couple on saturday slowly workin traps near the bottom off of ledges. Water temp was about 41 degrees, i think after this week they will be alot more active.

I spent the morning burning gas looking around and scouting before doing some fishing for about 2-1/2 hrs towards the end of the day. The sun was beatin' down and things were really ripening!! The area where we boated 2 bass yesterday went from 43 degrees to 47 and the fish were snapping! I boated 9 keepers with the majority of my weight coming on a black/blue swim jig. I switched to a red trap after I got a limit and some strong confidence and whacked several more burning that through the weeds. I am heading out for an all dayer tomorrow and looking to expand on the pattern. I didn't catch any big females yet but did manage a couple of 17-1/2" males that pushed 3 lbs. One of them is pictured below. Good luck everyone

Word is you are heading to WSU in the fall? The Fishing club guys did a real nice job a few weeks back. I am the club advisor and look forward to meeting you.

Made it out today for a while with a friend(Boods)....fished flooded timber/bushes all day far back in the backwaters cuz it was so damn windy  Only managed to boat one small pike flippin a jig, tough day to say the least. Anybody else out there wackin em?

That fish weighed 2 lbs 12 oz on the same scale you weighed your 7 lber with.
