Where to put rod holders
I need to install 4 rod holders in my new Crestliner 1950, but I'm not sure what the best locations would be. It pains me to drill holes in the gunwales for flush mount rod holders, but it needs to be done. Where does everyone put them?? There's the obvious...1 by each seat(the boat has 4 indivudual bucket seats in the back)...or 2 on a side close to each other and the stern. I'll be using planer boards so line tangle should't be an issue.

I would install rails. You then can adjust your rod holder position for what ever application you need without drilling holes.

Rails are the only way to go if you can do it. You can put 2 bases on each 3' rail. The best part is you can tilt them on the rail.

Yeah, what everyone else said. I have four bases on each 3' rail. Only holes needed were small holes for the screws.

Rails again. It's an easy add on. Cabelas sells "ranger style rails".

I would have to agree with the rails. You can then move your base wherever you want it. The tilt option mentioned above is nice too.

I never thought about putting rails out..very good idea. I'll have to see if rails will fit. Will I just have to drill small mounting holes for the bases that the rail attaches to?
