Good watching to help work go bye faster. have a few visitors that had not seen the website coming out to see and sign up.

just out of curiousity how is that "weeds on a line" legal ? just curious as would think it would create some type of issues with a CO, like certain jigs and such?

Thanks-
Broncs

We're glad you liked the show and thank you for telling others about the website.

I don't think there's an issue with the Weedline. I guess to me it is like a MEGA sized spinner rig to a large degree. Instead of beads and a spinner attracting the fish to the bait you have artificial structure.

Lake trout anglers use "cowbells" and salmon anglers use flashers to attract their target species. This is one more adaptation of a proven approach intended to pull fish from a distance to an angler's bait.

figured that since you were using them. Just goes back to haveing certain things on a line , spiners and such to make a treble legal ???? if that makes sense.

Absolutely it does. Scott and I rig a spinner and bead on all our tip ups even if we're not using a treble hook. When we do want to use a treble we can do so without an issues and we don't have to re-rig.

You can count on it. Scott carries 16 tip ups and my arsenal isn't far behind. If we can get enough guys in one place we'll throw out a tip up armada and see who's the fastest to the flags.

I have a question on the color camera. What do you use to point and keep the camera pointing where you want it? I like the color camera but like the ease of pointing the camera with the 560 camera. I have an Aquq-vu Scout and have a hard time getting the camera pointed in the right direction and keeping it there.

We use the Camera Compass from MarCum to direct the cameras on the 825c's or on any camera that doesn't have directional control. They work fantastic. All the sway / slow spin is gone and if you want to turn the camera you can do so without having to wait 5 minutes for the camera to stop spinning and swaying in the water.

Rumor has it that the directional control camera will be added to the 820 & 825c flat panels as an option for next season.

I'll let everyone know if and when that option becomes available. Personally I think it would be the finishing touch on a great product.

We have been using the 460 and 560 marcum cameras this year, and the compass cover actually keeps the holes from freezing shut as well.
Those cameras are unbelievable!

These work that well???

I have not used my camera yet this year based soley on the fact that I get a little ticked trying to set it up on the bait. Then try to keep it there

For $14.99 sounds like it is worth a shot!!!

Beats getting the spins for a half hour.

Lots of great questions. If you don't have a camera compass, get one! They work with any model and are nice if you plan to fish stationary. I like to set the camera, put on the compass and then put the camera on top of the compass. That way you have everything in one spot and a lot more room in the house.

Those are just the ones rigged for both Walleye and Pike Meaning they have the spinner/bead/slip sinker on the line. That set-up is used to I can change to a quick strike rig or treble and still be legal

The specialty ones stay home unless I know what I am fishing for sure.

The new MarCum Camera's (380, 820 & 825C) all come with the new Manta camera design and new camera cable. The new camera cable is amazing. It settles in VERY fast, with minimal sway. You have to use it to apppreciate it

im not trying to hijack the thread, but i had to add my 2 cents on this one too. i broke down and bought my first cam this year, a scout2. i also grabbed this marcum compass and its sweet, you can switch between lines in no time with this. i thought that the way the camera head is designed that i would have to adjust it to play with the current a lot, but it doesnt move. that compass keeps the camera locked in and rock solid. its a great product and im glad that my hasty impulse buy proved to be a winner!

by the way, great show guys!! keep up the good work!

Scott and James,

Great show guys and nice double at the end. My dad and I watched since he was up from IL for the weekend before we headed out to do some fishing ourselves. I loved the camera on the tip-up bait.

Thanks again for the site and the great show.

James and Scott,

I did want to ask a question. I noticed that you two both had different techinques for tip-up fishing. Scott, you seemed to pull the tip-up and set the hook right away. James, you pulled up the tip-up, and with your free hand, pulled line off the spool until you had what looked like enough to "work with". I have to say that James' method is what I have always done, unless using a quickstrike rig. Can you two expand on what presentations you were using compared to your method of answering the "flag"? Inquiring minds want to know.

Scott doesn't set the hook immediately for walleyes. He gets a feel for what the fish is doing and then sets the hook. My guess is it just the cuts used in the video. I'm pretty sure we're both doing it just about the same way.

Hmm. The portion I saw of Scott had him pull the tip up with one hand and, upon grabbing the line, immediately pulling up to set the hook. No cut in the video feed. I just thought maybe he was using a different setup underneath the ice.

Will have to see if Scott chimes in here.

IT might have been one of those tip ups that didn't exactly get noticed right away.

Or... once in awhile we'll have a rash of hit and runs where the fish drops the bait at the end of the first big run. This typically happens midday. When we start to see that type of pattern develop we start trying different techniques with the timing of the hookset. One of those is to hit the fish as soon as you get to the flag. It doesn't work often but once in awhile you'll get an extra fish or two out of a bunch of flags that were destined to drop the bait after the first run with the bait.

Typically we show up at a flag, get the tip up out of the hole without letting the fish feel any resistence. If the fish is still running we let it run. Once the fish stops I like to feel for those tell-tale thumps which I assume is the walleye positioning the bait to be swallowed. As soon as that fish starts to move again after I feel those thumps... they get hit.

Great info! Well, Scott got her, so something must have been done right!!!

Thanks!!!

Every once in awhile that "hit 'em quick" approach works. It sure beats doing it the same way every time when the fish are in the mood to drop the baits after the first run. But every fish is different and we're really just monitoring each fish and waiting for that fish to tell us when the timing is right.
