Excellent show guys!! Nice gills. Glad to hear the conservation comments, if more people observed those, our fisheries would be much better.
Happy New Years!!!

I think some people tend to take this big gills for granted. I fish a public pond where gills of this caliber are pretty common, trouble is, when I walk over to a couple of the holes drilled by the previous fisherpeople, there's a couple nice eating sized gills bellied up. Steams me pretty bad, had I known they were leaving with out the fish they had on the ice, I surely would have given them some business. Great show!

That was fun to watch, great job with the show and information. Dem der where very nice gills
Even the backwaters of the Mississippi should be treated as the smaller ponds. Community holes with limits of big fish walking off can put a whoppin’ on a spot. Using a good selective harvest without abuse, there is plenty to go around for everyone

I've got a lot of respect for those big gills. Most bodies of water just do not have the capability of producing big gills with any consistency and when you do find a body of water that does it regularly... man, is that fun! A 10" gill on a light rod is a blast and should be protected at the very minimum with a healthy dose of common sense when it comes time to keep some fish. It is good to hear so many others feel the same way out there.

As already stated, kudos to you guys for the conservation message on small waters, and even moreso for practicing what you preach.
It's no surprise that some of the best gill waters today have limited/no access, and that they're out there and waiting for those willing to do the work to find them. I'll admit that these are my best locations also!
I was wondering where all the bucketmouths were, as I only saw one of the green carp on camera! The symbiotic relationship b/w bass/bluegill in many of these ponds creates a great two-fer opportunity, and targeting bass like you guys are the bluegill is very doable early ice.
I'm sure that footage will be saved for coming weeks. Good work, great show.

I think we landed 5 or 6 decent largies during the course of the day's filming. Which isn't half bad considering we were fishing with a #12 gill pill and a couple spikes. But those bass were definitely in there in decent numbers and at one point Luke did mention that it isn't uncommon to catch 4+ lb largemouth in the summer months.
Those larger bass and the channel cats in that lake are the keys to keeping the bluegill populations in check. As the predator population goes so goes the quality of the bluegill.

I know a lake that has big 'gills....I have one mounted that was 11.25 inches long. Monsters! And in the bad old days we kept some of those fish. What we found (if I can use a livestock term here) was that they don't "yield" very well. Basically a big old Bluegill had big heavy bones but not that much more meat than a smaller fish. We learned it was much better to to selectively harvest and keep the 7-8 inch fish, letting the bigger ones go. You'll never know the difference at the dinner table and you're doing a good thing for the lake.
A lot of you know I dearly love to fly fish. Catching those big sunfish on a light flyrod is tremndous fun. If we all do our part by letting some of those bigger fish stay in the lake then more of us can enjoy the sport.
Another great show James!
