Good show this morning. Sure gets a guy thinking about ice fishing. Now I need to get my but back to the deer stand. Keep up the good work.

What line where you using James? It almost looked like a braid in the one shot.

Thanks.

Thanks Gentleman!!

Crappies like no other fish seem to be the most fickle. Hammer anything when in a feeding frenzy, yet willingly snub your best presentations when falling into a neutral or even negative mood. I particularly liked this episode as I felt it was educational as we progressed through the tackle changes necessary to continue to ice fish. Make no doubt about it to start that show James was putting the WOOD to the fish with the clown/perch patterned Lightning spoon. I think James made the Crappie landslide look better than it was by mixing in a slab of mine every once in awhile. While I had fish after fish scoff at my blue/silver pattern early in the day. It is pretty amazing that a 1/8 oz. lightning spoon was crushing these slabs with NO BAIT!! RUKIDDING ME!! Kudos to CJS for their array of Slab Producing tackle. From Shrimpos to Ratsos.....To Diamond Jigs and Gil Pills.....To Flu-Flu's, and now LIGHTING SPOONS!! YIKES!! Lethal Pannie slapping tackle NO DOUBT!!

I'm pretty spoiled fishing Borderland waters for Monster Pannies!! With that being said everyday can present tough decisions whether to target Giant Pike, Eyes, Perch or even SMALLIES!!! Not enough time in the day!!

We continue to be proud to showcase the Rainy Lake area along with our guide service on such an awesome television show/website!! I also am priveleged to share the ice/water with so many quality fisherman from this site!!

Tight lines team!! I'm back in the swamp for another week finishing out the Gun Season. Then 100% focus goes into hardwater preperations. I've still got some prime dates available for Rentals on MONSTER EYES!! Getting pretty full though.

Just like 2 kids!! LOL!! Look at James eyeing up my Crappie while I take a gander at his big Ri-DONK-ulous papermouth. No doubt both us were thinking..........Hmnnnn.....I think that Crappie is a little smaller than mine His is probablly only 14 inches!!

Good eyes, Mike, It was Berkley Fireline Crystal. I used it quite a bit last year when the temps were right around or above freezing. In clear water I took the time to add in a short fluoro leader but in the stained waters of Rainy I was just tying direct to the lures and the fish didn't seem to be line shy one bit.

Thanks for the kind words on the shows. Next week... pike!

Thanks Juan. I'm looking forward to getting out on early ice and getting some more episodes up here online. The way things are looking we'll be headed to the Alexandria, MN area for first ice.

You and me both. It looks like my first trip up there will be mid-january for east end walleyes and I know I'll be back in March some time. There's no way I could stay away from those crappies.

Chris do you get crappies like this early in the winter or is it a late season thing? I'd love to come and give that a try and I don't want to wait that long!!!!!
Crappie Buster
That was an awasome show great job getting those finnicky crappies to bite
Chris Granrud
I start focusing our searches for big panfish mid-February. Nice thing about February trips is that you have the chance to get into a nice eye bite as well. Options are GOOD!! Don't forget giant pike and smallies!! Even Gils on nearby haunts!! January is almost booked up, and February is getting there, so get on the horn if your heading on the Daze Train to fish!! CAN'T WAIT!!

Yup, this warm weather driving me crazy but the forecast looks like we're finally starting to do the slow slide into a winter weather pattern. I'll be heading to Duluth later today to wake the snowmobiles up from their summer siesta and start getting the rest of my ice gear ready for the season. Once it gets rolling it will be on us FAST.
