How to post a pic on IDO

#609265 - 12/17/07 10:17 AM

We've added an upgraded photo upload system to the site. Instead of being limited to one photo per post it is now possible to add up to 12 photos in a single post.

The file size of the original image is no longer an issue. Members submitting photos will no longer need to size their images before uploading. Our servers will do the work for you.

To add a photo, click on the "Manage Photos" tab located about the post entry box. (photo #1)

The next step is to locate the photo file on your hard drive. Click "Browse." (photo #2)

Once the photo has been located, attach it as you would an image in an email.

To add the image to our servers, click "Update." (photo #3)

If you are finished adding photos, click "Close Window." (photo #4)

If you wish to add more than 1 photo, repeat the "Browse" and "Update" steps for each photo. You may add up to 12 images with each post.

Once you are finished adding photos, make your post. Your photos will be attached. To view each individual photo, hover your pointer over the associated thumbnail.

If you link out to photos on photobucket or other photo hosting sites be sure that they are no wider than 450 pixels on either side or you will stretch the page here on the site.
Using the photo upload system here on the site is FAR easier and quicker than using photobucket or other photo hosting sites. The other nice thing about uploading photos to the IDO server is that they'll always be part of the post you added them to. If you browse old threads you'll find nearly all photos added using a hosting site are missing... so the posts that are loaded with all those red "X's" indicating a missing file.

Dan it might be that the file you are trying to download is too large. I do not remember the exact number but if my memory serves me correctly I believe that that if it is larger than 2000 pixels you will need to resize the file. Give it a try and see if that works for you.

I've uploaded 1.7 megs without any trouble Steve. If the error message says:

"Only files of type .jpg, .gif and .png allowed. "

...but you know it's a jpg file, it's a file that's too large. If you don't have the photo editing software to RESIZE your photos, you can send them to briank@in-depthoutdoors.com and I'll send them back to you to post.

Also, you may want to change the settings on your camera to take a lower resolution photo.
